What Is Greed Free Essays

string(119) he probably won't have been crushed by the partners by any stretch of the imagination, it was his voracity that prompted not just his transport his systems fall. When Does Greed Become Too Much? In 2008, representatives inside a flopping firm on Wall Street were given $16 billion in rewards. That appears to be ludicrous, doesn’t it? Outrage was the reaction of the American individuals inconclusively. Nonetheless, in the event that they had done further research they would have understood that the $16 billion in rewards was just 50% of what the organization gave out in rewards during great occasions. We will compose a custom article test on What Is Greed? or on the other hand any comparable point just for you Request Now A significant number of the columnists recounting to the story talked about the issue of compensating the eagerness of the representatives with citizen cash. Which carries us to the inquiry, what precisely is avarice? On the off chance that they would have earned more previously, they are expecting the sum that is coming. It isn't insatiability if consistently before that the cash had been ensured, right? The Merriam-Webster word reference characterizes insatiability as, â€Å"a narrow minded and over the top want for a greater amount of something than is required. † ________________________________________________________________________ The word voracity goes back to the 1200-1300’s, where in France it originated from the word avarus meaning avaricious which was a type of avere significance to desire or long for. Originating from the word avarus was avaritia which implied just ravenousness and from that word came greed which implied insatiability or greed (Harper, 1). Rapaciousness is characterized as a jealous enthusiasm to have something(Merriam-Webster, 2). Eagerness from the 1600’s to introduce is a back development of the word ravenous which has numerous courses and definitions. The West Saxon word graedig or the Anglican word gredig both implied unquenchable or avaricious (Harper, 1). Insatiable is characterized as needing to eat up extraordinary amounts or having an exceptionally enthusiastic way to deal with a movement (Merriam Webster). From the Proto-Germanic language were the words graedagaz and graeduz meaning avarice and craving; perhaps from the Proto-Indo-European root gher-importance to need or in Scotland grdh-to be avaricious. The beginning that the individuals against the Wall Street rewards would value the most would be the one from the Greek word phyilargyros meaning â€Å"money-loving† and furthermore the German word for eager, habsuchtig originating from haben meaning â€Å"to have† +sucht meaning â€Å"sickness, disease† (Harper, 1). The last one is the most intriguing on the grounds that it is proposing that covetousness is something than can travel every which way with the set in stone energizers, similar to an infection does. What at that point would one have to do to help their resistant framework against this voracity? Or on the other hand is avarice something inconceivable for individuals to maintain a strategic distance from? From the derivation we have discovered that ravenousness can be identified with yearning and envy and the need to have to an ever increasing extent, were these definitions reliable in their utilization after some time? So as to all the more likely comprehend what eagerness truly is we have to pause for a minute to glance back at the historical backdrop of avarice and how regularly it has happened all through the world. In 1527 A. D. the Spaniards had cruised over the Atlantic Ocean and gone over the realm of the Incas. They were headed to the New World and they ran over a pontoon with a group of roughly 20 men alongside numerous fortunes. Subsequent to getting a brief look at the fortune on the pontoon, the eagerness of the Spaniards gushed until they chose to direct an undertaking to vanquish the Incas’ realm. After numerous long periods of getting a group and assets for this undertaking the Spaniards at last headed into the Incas Empire in 1532 A. D. ; luckily the overcoming of the realm was simpler because of the common war of the Incas. The Spaniards kidnapped the Incas head and consequently were offered a room of silver and gold as his payment. The Spaniards avarice kept on getting greater and they took the substance of the room, yet didn't restore the ruler, however rather slaughtered him. The Incan individuals at that point revolted under the Spanish control (History World, 1). In the event that the Spaniards and not been so insatiable in their craving to assume control over the realm perhaps they could have prevailed upon the individuals as their own; rather they were driven by eagerness and one man even named them cheats of the Incan individuals. Mansio Serra Leguizamon, the last conquistador, stated: â€Å"I wish Your Majesty to comprehend the rationale that moves me to offer this expression is the tranquility of my soul and on account of the blame I share. For we have decimated by our insidious conduct such an administration as was delighted in by these locals. They were so liberated from wrongdoing and insatiability, the two people, that they could leave gold or silver worth a hundred thousand pesos in their open house. So when they found that we were cheats and men who looked to compel their spouses and girls to submit sin with them, they loathed us. Cases like that of the Spaniards and the Incas rehashed themselves on different occasions since the beginning. From the land insatiability of the Europeans against the individuals of Africa to the land ravenousness of the Americans against the Native Indians, those countries that progress appear to exhibit an extraordinary degree of avarice so as to get to the top. Be that a s it may, while this avarice specifically prompted the accomplishment of those countries showing it there have additionally been models where it prompted the downfall of a tyrant or of a gathering all in all. For instance, Adolf Hitler had just crushed most of his European foes, the last being Great Britain. Hitler had marked an agreement two years earlier expressing that he would not take up arms against them, making the countries not have equipped themselves. Hitler’s choice to break this understanding must be propelled by his ravenousness to overwhelm the various nations; regardless of whether Great Britain was multiple times the size of his realm. While Nazi Germany had the most impressive military at the time they were not used to the chilly climate and were before long overwhelmed by the Soviet Union soldiers. In the event that Hitler had just disregarded the Soviet Union he probably won't have been vanquished by the partners by any means, it was his insatiability that prompted not just his transport his systems fall. You read What Is Greed? in classification Papers Other instances of the fall of whole countries because of ravenousness incorporate the fall of the Roman Empire and the fall of Ancient Greece. A huge gathering of history specialists have arrived at the resolution that most of progress on the planet is a consequence of the voracity of all the more remarkable countries to turn out to be significantly progressively amazing. This framework is useful for those advancing and terrible for the littler, less created countries who are being dominated. Regardless of whether eagerness is good in this perspective is another contention, yet the meaning of insatiability expressed beforehand is without a doubt relevant to these authentic models. In the case of the Spaniards and Incas it is eagerness in light of the fact that the Spaniards previously had their own realm over the sea, anyway they were driven by the need of more land and of the fortune of the Incas to forge ahead and take more than was important for the country to endure. Again it appeared to be pointless for the Europeans and the Americans to take the place where there is the Africans and Native Indians when they previously had land somewhere else, it was a superfluous victory. In the case of Hitler assaulting the Soviet Union, it was insatiability since he previously had an agreement with them to find a sense of contentment and he broke it since he needed more. It was a bit much for him to assault the Soviet Union yet he did because of covetousness and the result of this was the death of his system; a similar fall like that of the Roman Empire and Ancient Greece. It appears that since the beginning the people’s view of what covetousness is has stayed in line to the definition from the Merriam-Webster Dictionary and this definition is reliable to the past of he word insatiability, simply more nitty gritty than past definitions. It looks just as it is highly unlikely for individuals to abstain from being covetous in its culmination, regardless of whether it be needing more candy than you need at Halloween (which was we all eventually, I’m sure) or needing outrageous measures of cash to be paid to you from work†¦everyone has shown an insati able conduct in any event once in their life. This realizes the inquiry, is there a point to where eagerness turns out to be excessively overpowering? By this I basically imply that you are not liable to loathe a multi year old wearing a cowpoke outfit for requesting more sweets when they as of now have a full pack on Halloween, yet you may despise somebody who as of now makes $50,000 to $100,000 per year and is getting a reward on this pay†¦when their organization is falling flat and is being paid by rescue comprising of your citizens dollars. Is the multi year old similarly as blameworthy as the Wall Street firm representative? A great many people would state no, the multi year old is excessively youthful to truly comprehend what avarice is. OK, so shouldn't something be said about a multi year old or a multi year old or a multi year old†¦at what age does it become socially inadmissible to act in a ravenous manner? Let’s take a gander at another examination, however this time between individuals of a more seasoned age gathering. It’s a splendid, radiant day in the city and a wedded couple is strolling down the road when they look down and locate an a hundred dollar greenback. In a split second the man hops for euphoria since he can at long last bear the cost of some football gear he had been setting aside up cash as an afterthought for. The spouse didn’t even think to ask the wife what she figured they ought to do with the cash. A great many people would excuse this and state, â€Å"Oh, it’s only a hundred dollars for football stuff. Leave the man alone. † What if a similar man worked for AIG and got a strange check and was requesting a greater reward at Christmas time to purchase football stuff? What’s the distinction? It’s still a similar man utilizing extra or â€Å"bonus† cash to purchase a similar football stuff, yet individuals ten

Odysseus and Recognition - Literature Essay Samples

Which scenes of the Odyssey between Odysseus return to Ithaca and his slaughter of the Suitors show Homer at his best as a story teller. (Books 14-24)In the Odyssey Homer has created a poem to stir the depths of an audiences emotions, able to create scenes both full of anger at the Suitors arrogance and tragic with sorrow and hardship. In books 14 to 21, he has assembled a series of poignant recognition scenes which intersperse small incidents showing the threat posed by the usurping Suitors. These scenes between Odysseus and his faithful servants are some of the most powerful in the Odyssey, and add much to the tension in the run up to the final battle against the Suitors. In book 14, Homer pays particular attention to the faithful servant Eumaeus in order to highlight the difference between him and the unfaithful servants in the palace:unwilling to sleep there away from his boars He got himself ready for a night outside, and Odysseus was delighted to see his diligent concern for his absent masters property. This shows not only how laudable Eumaeus is, but also how detestable the actions of the Suitors are. Such scenes as this are able to charm the audience and create great sympathy and admiration for Eumaeus and the other struggling servants true to Odysseus. We can see how much Homer loved the swineherd from his use of apostrophe in addressing Eumaeus, a privilege reserved for him alone. Eumaeus is shown to be a strange mixture of nobility and humility; he owns his own servants and yet carries out the most humble tasks, perhaps showing how Homer feels all people should behave and providing a stark contrast to the pride and boastfulness of the Suitors.Eumaeus is also used to create tension in the play. He calls Odysseus old friend subconsciously it seems; a subtle hint at their relationship? Eurymachus words are also employed by Homer to create much dramatic irony:the gods showed their utter hatred of him [Odysseus] he is dead and gone: the dogs and t he birds of the air must by now have torn the flesh from his bonesHomer makes a point of devoting much of the conversation in this section of the poem to a discussion as to whether Odysseus if dead. Eumaeus is adamant that he is, and Odysseus is adamant he isnt. This creates irony as Odysseus is unable to convince Eumaeus, whom we know to be wrong, and makes the final battle, when it eventually comes, far more dramatic as it dispels all the tension previously built up.Another scene of great power is the recognition of Odysseus by Telemachus in book 16. We are told:Telemachus could not yet accept that it was his fatherTelemachus flung his arms around his noble fathers neck and burst into tears they cried aloud piercingly and more convulsively than birds of prey when robbed of their young. These quotations show firstly the skilful way in which Homer draws out Telemachus acceptance of his father with his disbelief to create more tension in the audience, and secondly the strong emoti ve language and images he uses to make the scene more powerful. The simile is particularly notable as it suggests wild uncontrollable emotions ravaging the two men and shows the depth of their feelings as well as adding an element of danger, and perhaps nobility (many birds of prey were associated with the gods; Zeus eagles, for example) to them.Recognition scenes are perhaps the most powerful in this poem; the scene in book 19 where Eurycleia recognises Odysseus being a prime example:Abruptly she let go of her masters foot which made the metal ring as it dropped against the basin, upsetting and spilling all the water on the floor her voice stuck in her throat Odysseus hand sought and gripped [her] throat. This section of the book shows Homer using all his skill to create the surprise of Eurycleia. The basin is focused on as it is an everyday object allowing the audience to relate to it, and the contrast with steady Eurycleia and her sudden loss of speech and grip show the extent of her shock. It is a response both realistic and authentic, giving Eurycleia a human side which makes her more understandable and more pitiable to an audience. This impression is further backed up when Eurycleia lifted her hand to Odysseus chin, giving a visible signal of her affection for her master. She calls him my dear child, showing the closeness of the relationship between these two, and making this a more powerful scene. Another sentence in this section is:Delight and anguish swept through her heart togetherThis shows the conflicting emotions unleashed in the old woman; delight at Odysseus safe return, yet worry at the hardships he must have suffered, and must still suffer at the hands of the Suitors. The contrast of these two feelings help to show an audience the sudden rush of uncontrollable emotion which overwhelms Eurycleia, making this section more effective, and more emotive to an audience.Odysseus reaction here (grabbing Eurycleia by the throat) may seem violent to a modern audience, but I believe it serves to show the strain Odysseus is under, and how much is at stake here. His anxiety makes him harsher than perhaps he would normally be as it is of vital importance that he is not discovered at this early stage, and this heightens the audiences sense of anticipation making it more effective and more dramatic.Homers use of strong similes throughout books 13-21 is particularly striking. For example, his comparison of Odysseus with a dog when he is tempted to kill the maids prematurely:His heart growled within him as a bitch growls standing guard over her helpless pups, ready to fight when she sees a stranger. This simile suggests the protectiveness Odysseus feels for his pups; his family and possessions, and also his bravery. The Suitors are like the stranger, threatening and unwanted, and the whole scene is vivid, emotive, and easy for a Greek audience to relate to. Homers easily understandable similes are much in evidence in the rest of the poem as well:he looked like some wretched old beggar leaning on a stick, his body covered with filthy rags. (book 17)This shows how complete the disguise provided by Athene is, and how dejected Odysseus now appears. Pathos cannot help but created for him by such a vivid simile, even though we know he is really godlike, showing Homer at his best as a story teller.Homer gives us yet another poignant and potent scene in the death of Argus dog:There, full of vermin, lay Argus directly he became aware of Odysseus presence, he wagged his tail though he lacked the strength now to come nearer to his masterThis touching reunion shows the degradation that has taken place in Odysseus absence, and serves to further the plot as well as being highly emotive. It is the start of a series of recognition scenes, and there is a sense of tragic irony in that the dog cannot be taken in by a goddess disguise. The dog is the lowliest of all Odysseuss subjects, yet it is still loyal to him (like Eumaeus), creating more irony, and when the black hand of Death descends on him, there is a great amount of pathos created in an audience. The battle of Odysseus and Irus, too, is a highly effective piece of writing. As he fells Irus, we are reminded of Odysseus tremendous power, and the language Homer uses is particularly vivid, yet there is still an overtone of the menacing Suitors cast over the scene:Irus fell down in the dust with a scream, grimacing and drumming on the earth with his feet. At this the noble Suitors threw up their hands and died of laughing. This is a disturbing passage; the proximity of the violence and the Suitors mirth seems unnatural, and the strange phrase died of laughing adds morbidity and a chill of death to the Suitors, either making their death seem inevitable, or making them seem eerie and oddly preternatural. Homer here is able to create excitement and genuine entertainment for an audience, whilst casting an air of death over the scene.Homer, then, is able to create great scenes using imagery and emotive language. The Odyssey is a work of great sensitivity to the characters feelings and the audience is manipulated with great skill, whilst at the same time there is the cut and thrust of action and adventure. Recognition scenes are cunningly woven into the fabric of the poetry with every scene exploited to the full.

On Tuesday, November 26, I critically listened to a sermon at The Word of Faith Christian Church delivered by Pastor Julius Stephens. It was a regular Tuesday bible study with about eight people. Pastor Stephens s topic for the day was everybody has a purpose. He also made the sermon very interactive asking a lot of question and asked the views of his audience on an issue in order to engage them. He maintained good eye contact and didn t use a lot of hand gestures so he didn t distract his audience from the topic. He used spoke audaciously, he took risks in saying things that may or may not hurt people s feelings in order to pass his point effectively. The speaker also made use of transition words this made his sermon coherent. The body of the sermon was mostly centralized on the purpose of each and every one of us in the church, the saying everything happens for a reason and his view on it. He stated that every person in the church has a particular purpose. He used the example of a human s body stating that every part of the body has particular purposes. He went further to say in the body of Christ some of us maybe the legs, the eyes, the mouth, and the eyes of the church. He said every one of us has a purpose in the church as every part of our body has a particular task to perform. He said those of us who are evangelist are the mouth of the church; he said those of us who are givers are the hands of the church, and those of us who have the money to sponsor the movement of the gospel around the world are the feet. This example made me and other audience member understand our

Question: Discuss about the Change Management in organization. Answer: In the global business environment, the business process faces numerous ethical issues which they need to correct with their business activities. It is the responsibility of the organization to develop certain code of ethics that every member connected to the organization shall follow and put them in their daily activities. Fundamental issues of ethics include integrity and trust and the complex issues of ethics include decision making process, accommodating diversity, compliance and governance etc. The fact shall be taken into account that all organizations face the ethical dilemma in today's world, and handling such problem with solidarity is very important for the organization; because it will help the organization to gain the trust of employees and customers of the organization (Bogers, West 2012). Further the essay provides a brief overview of the ethical issues and implications in an organization, primary targets of change management, reason or this change and various theories which adequately defines the process of change in an organization. Further details about the task are discussed below: There are many aspects which shall be considered by the organization while deciding the change management process in an organization. As change is not restricted to a part of the organization, but its effects are spread on whole functionalities of the organization. Thus, the fact is be known that all the organization shall understand, analyses and then apply the change process in the organization while looking at all the important factors which can neutralize the change in the organization (By, Burnes, Oswick 2011). Further the factor which affects change in an organization can be segregated into two parts that is internal factors and external factors. The internal factors are those which are present in the internal environment of the organization and affect in working of the organization whereas external are those key consideration which are present in the external environment of the organization and initiate change or affect changes in an organization. Talking about competition, i t is one of the most important factors which shall be evaluated by the organization in order to initialize change management. The entrance new competitors in the market cause change in the marketing strategy of the organization. This process initiate change in the organization and it also affect the change strategy of the management as well (Carter, et. al., 2013). Another important aspect which shall be considered in technology, it is the major factor which acts as a reason for change in any management. All organizations want to innovation along with technology, due to which they need to upgrade themselves with new and efficient technology so as to maintain their competitive edge in the target market. The third major aspect which shall be considered while looking at the change management process in an organization is the government regulations. Change in government regulations changes the working of the whole industry. Thus it is important to consider the government regulation and analyze its effect on the organization and then initialize the change management process (Coghlan, Rashford, de Figueiredo 2015). After analyzing the key consideration aspects the organization shall gather information which can assist them to complete their target and implement changes in the organization. Data gathering is a mandatory process, because if the organization will have adequate knowledge about the changes in the environment and way in which they change implement change. Then the change process cannot hold its effect in the organization (Hayes 2014). In-person conversation, surveys, mails etc. are some of the ways with which the management can attain information regarding the change which they want to initiate in the organization. Personal discussion and questionnaire are some of the ways which can provide accurate data to organization. This data can help them to target the articular segment in the organization implement change in them (Hornstein 2015). The next step is the identification of the primary target of the change management process in the organization these targets are those groups of people for whom the change management process is defined in the organization. The organization target them to and implements activities in such a way that change is implemented in the organization. The identification of such target is important for the organization, as on the basis of these targets only the management will prepare the change plan in the organization. Also, the success of the plan is also evaluated through targets only. As if there is change in the plan then the plan has shown positive results otherwise vice versa (Burke 2017). Also the accuracy of target is also important for the accomplishment of the plan defined. Suppose if the management is aiming to initiate innovative technology use in the product of the organization and they are aiming the wrong target to analyze the result of the plan, then the change cannot work effe ctively. As the management will develop the in such a way that it affects the target and initiate change in them but the aim of the organization something different and plan is going in the wrong direction. Thus in this way, the organization won't be able to meet the change according to their expectation due to selection of wrong targets. Thus it shall be noted that selection of the target is an important aspect of the process of change. And this of the wrong target will initiate failure of whole change plan of organization. So, mistake in the planning and executive process of change management is applicable but mistake in the selection of accurate target shall be avoided by the organization (Creasey, et. al., 2016). Resistance is a normal aspect of the process of change in an organization, it shall be considered that human nature when someone introduces to change in the organization; on the initial level all the employees denies to this change and look at this is a negative way. One of the major aspects due of which employees resists changing is their mentality of failure of their target. Employees think that they won't be able to achieve the target due to which change process will not become effective in the organization resulting in loss of job of the employee (Pugh 2016). So, it shall be considered as one of the reason due to which employee resist changing in the organization. Apart from that satisfaction of job is also one of the components among employee due to which they resist to the change plan presented by the management. Employees who are more satisfied with their job will always positive reaction to the change implementation plan in the organization whereas less satisfied employees wi ll not. Also, loss of control is one of the factors due to which the management fear to initiate change process in the organization. As changes refer to the process of molding the conditions present in the organization and implementing activities which will increase the efficiencies of the organization (Church, et. al., 2016). For this purpose, the management needs to deal with the different aspects present in the organization, and the might feel themselves in inefficient to tackle such changes present in the organization due to which the plan might not work according to their expectations. Also to some extent, such fear of failure and loss of control is acceptable but for the process of change, the management needs to take risk. As this change will provide more benefits the organization due to which the organization shall take risk and implement the change process in the organization (Malgas, and Henrie Benedict 2017). Lewin's force field analysis states the process of change in a better way; he provides three phases of the model. The first phase unfreezing states that the organization needs to keep aside the old and rigid laws which used to hamper the growth of the company. This process aims to open the mind of the employees and initiate new change according to fluctuating market feature. The next step refers to change which refers to implementation of the new idea and applies it in the management process. Lastly refreezing refers to the process of change management under which whatever has been taught to the employees by the management shall be taken into action .the activities shall now be incorporated in the regular working of the employees. Such change shall be adopted by the employees with the help of change management. This step is the final stage of the model under which actual performance is seen and analyzed. This process works in such a way that on the initial basis the management is unf rozen and welcomed to the change process, after providing flexibility and enough information about the change the process is implemented; and lastly, after this implementation, the organization is frozen again (Shimoni 2017). Another model is the bekhard change plan, which initiates some steps for the process of change in the organization. First is adjustment of goal and standards according to flexible conditions, next is identification of current action plan which is working in organization and objectives which this plan is targeting. Further, this process defines proper change activities according to the changes objectives of organization. And lastly, the organization shall develop tools and strategies to initiate this transition and initiate measures to control the uncertainty as well (Gollenia 2016). Further talking about change it shall be noted that organization politics is also one of the major components which resist the process of change in the organization. As people do not want to change their working conditions or environment in which they are comfortable due to which politics is played in the organization to resist such. So, in order to align this politics in favor of change management, the management shall take the trade union leader in power. They shall convince the leader regarding the change and benefits which they will receive through this change; after which they shall ask the leader to convince the whole union to initiate the process of change. Thus in this way, the management shall use politics to create output for the organization (George 2016). Thus, in the limelight of above-mentioned events the fact that shall be noted that change is an important part of the business process which needs to be implemented by the organization. In order to maintain the effectiveness of the organization and gain the competitive edge, the management needs to implement practices according to the fluctuating market features. Also, selecting the right for change process is also important for the organization because if the will select the wrong target then the whole plan will fail. Lastly, it shall be noted that t is the duty of the management to take risk and convince their employees to implement the change process for the effectiveness of the organization in the target market.
